What We Will Focus On
- Strength & physical development: building core, grip and whole-body strength.
- Fundamental movement skills: crawling, climbing, jumping, throwing, catching, pushing, pulling and balancing.
- Balance, coordination & body awareness: developing control, stability and an understanding of how their bodies move.
- Everyday independence: developing physical foundations that support dressing, managing shoes and clothing, using the toilet, washing hands and getting up and down from the floor.
- Sensory-informed movement: exploring equipment and movement experiences in ways that feel comfortable and supportive for each child.
- Confidence & curiosity: children can try, repeat, adapt or step away from activities, building confidence through achievable movement experiences.
- Early learning through movement: incorporating simple learning opportunities into physical activities, such as colour matching, counting, number recognition, letter recognition, sorting, sequencing, following patterns and identifying shapes.
A Typical Session
🌱 Welcome & Explore: Time to settle in and follow their own interests, exploring the space, equipment and play and learning activities.
⭐ Star Activities: A number of carefully planned activities are set out as - invitations to move and explore. These might focus on a particular strength, movement skill or physical development goal. Children are supported to engage in the activities in their own way, rather than being expected to complete them in a particular way.
🌱 Explore & Move: More time to freely explore, allowing children to revisit activities, practise skills and follow their interests.
🌙 Calm & Connect: A gentle, age-appropriate ending with simple breath work, stretching and calming movement, before finishing the session.
The sessions are child-led, but not unstructured. There is a clear framework and purpose behind each session, while allowing children the freedom to explore, make choices and move in a way that feels good for them.
The aim isn't to create mini athletes — it's about building strong physical foundations for everyday life and a lifetime of movement.
