Sensory Informed Fitness Sessions

Consistently-flexible movement sessions, designed to support:

✓ Balance
✓ Coordination
✓ Strength
✓ Confidence
✓ Sensory Regulation

The sessions are about more than just movement.

They aim to offer families immediate support and practical

guidance through shared exploration, helping them discover

the movement experiences that support their child's physical

development, sensory needs and overall wellbeing.

Consistently flexible...what does that mean?

The session structure stays the same each week, providing predictability and reducing anxiety - helping individuals know what to expect and feel confident in the environment - while the activities, level of challenge and pace are adapted to each individual’s strengths, interests and sensory needs.

There is no expectation that every individual will complete every activity in the same way. Instead, they will be supported to explore movements and do what feels good for them, on that day.

Individuals will attend alongside a parent or carer and can engage with activities at their own pace and be supported to access movement in a way that works for them.

The pace includes opportunities for:
• Swinging • Hanging • Balance Challenges • Coordination Activities • Heavy Work Activities
• Calm and Regulation Spaces

Structure each week:

→ Arrival & Explore ~15mins
→ Movement Preparation (alerting) ~5mins
→ Movement Stations (organising) ~20-30mins
→ Regulation, Recovery (calming) ~20-25mins

This final section also includes time to build relationships with others.

The session is timetabled for 1hr 15mins to give flexibility with timings.

There is no expectation for individuals to stay for the whole time.

Key Features:

✓ Consistently-flexible weekly routine

✓ Parent/carer supported participation

✓ Opportunities for choice and independence

✓ Activities adapted to individual needs

✓ Calm space available throughout the session

✓ Visual supports to aid engagement and transitions.

In addition to you completing a sign up form and Sensory Preferences Questionnaire, Laura will contact you before the sessions to capture information about further support strategies that may enable individuals to feel as comfortable in the space as possible.

It may be suggested that â€‹â€‹â€‹Sensory Profiling is completed to help identify how the individual experiences and responds to sensory information from their environment.

We can complete all of this together if needed, so please do not worry.
