How often do you actively look?
How often do you take time to notice things that are all around you? - and no, I don't mean the dishes or the mountain of washing that needs doing, or the streaky windows that only show up when the sun shines directly onto them!
How often do you make a conscious decision to look at and appreciate things that you have around you...your most precious possessions, your photographs of memories hung on your walls, the blossom trees that line the road your drive down everyday to take the kids to school.
Life is busy, but there is always time to stop, just for a moment, and look. Try it now. Look up from your screen and notice something. Look at the colours....the patterns....the details. If it's a person within a photo/painting or someone in real life, notice something about them - the colour of their hair, their smile, the way they are sat.
By actively looking, you are being mindful and present in the moment. This can help boost your self-awareness and support you in noticing simple pleasures, which in turn, can give you a natural dose of dopamine - one of our happy hormones.
So the next time you're about to get in the car to travel to work or do the shopping, or on the way to pick up the kids, take a moment to look. Look with a soft intent and purpose and you'll soon spot un-noticed beauty and pleasures in the smallest of forms.
