Self-myofascial release.

Writer: Laura CollinsLaura Collins

Self-myofascial release may be a bit of a mouthful, so let’s just say self-massage instead, because that’s what it is!

It’s self-massage that aims to ease sore, tight and/or tired muscles and the surrounding tissues. Many self-massage techniques can be performed without equipment, but those that do involve aids, require tools that are inexpensive and readily available to buy.

Top tips:

1.    Be gentle. Yes, work to find tight spots, but not to find pain.

2.    Take your time. Use slow, steady movements to give muscles and tissues time to release and relax.

3.    Progress or regress moves as required.
